  how do I set up a header for a portfolio?

  Hi there. Custom headers can be uploaded under Appearance ->Customize ->Header, provided your theme supports them. Uploading a header there will apply to the entire blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/

  Some themes will also display a featured image as a header for specific posts, pages and projects, but I have no idea if your theme works that way. See here for instructions how to assign a featured image: http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/
