How do I set up a new site without a custom domain? For example, my-site.wordpress.com.
-
Hi there!
You can create a new WordPress.com site here: https://wordpress.com/start/about
And you can read more about it at Create a Blog or Website.
Let us know if you need any more help. 🙂

Hi there,
Check out this doc for instructions on adding a new site to your existing account:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-accountEvery WordPress.com site comes with a default address of my-site.wordpress.com. You don’t need to add a custom domain if you don’t want to!
Hope this helps!

When I try to set up a new site, I am blocked by a screen that makes me choose a custom domain name—I can’t find the path to simply getting a subdomain. Is that expected?
-
Also, how do I delete the line in my above post about “The blog I need help with is…”? That is a random subdomain I created 10 years ago. I didn’t type that text and don’t want that to be listed in my post.
-
The top two options will be a custom domain – but just below that, you should see the free
you.wordpress.comoption. -
Oh, I see it now. That is incredibly confusing. Thanks for the pointer.
Who can I contact to get this post deleted or edited?
-
Per the Best Practices & Community Standards:
Information posted in our forums will only be deleted at staff’s discretion if it presents a valid security or personal safety concern.
However, you’ve marked the blog in question as ‘private’ – so no one can see it unless you personally invite them. See more at Privacy Settings:
Private. Select this option to make your site private. If you want specific people to be able to view it (and add comments, if you’ve enabled them), you’ll need to invite them to be a viewer.
After marking your site as private, visitors will see a “Protected Blog” page if they’re not logged into their WordPress.com account when trying to view your site.
-
I’d like the staff to edit out the line that I didn’t write, as it’s inaccurate. How do I request that?
-
I’ll tag this as modlook so staff will take a look. 🙂
For what it’s worth, I’m not staff and you haven’t invited me to your blog – so when I visit it, this is all I can see:
This site is marked private by its owner. If you would like to view it, you’ll need permission from the site owner. Request an invite and we’ll send your username to the site owner for their approval.

Thanks nikolnieto.
For the staff who are reviewing this, I think there’s a legal concern here about writing text as if it were written by a user when it wasn’t.
I’ll be happy if you either delete the thread or if you edit out the text I didn’t write.

If you look through these forums you’ll see most people’s threads have the site address associated with their username/account displayed. See:
The full URL of your main website or blog. The Web Address will be the link used for your Public Display Name when you leave comments on WordPress.com sites or in the forums. Changing your Web Address will not affect the link on existing comments; it will only change the link for future comments you leave.

Thanks themagicrobot, but I don’t believe that helps me out here. I’ll wait to hear from the staff, hopefully this is a quick fix for them.

Hi davey87,
I’d like the staff to edit out the line that I didn’t write, as it’s inaccurate.
I’ve removed your site URL from the thread — this site was selected because it was the one selected under My Sites when you contacted us.
I’ll be happy if you either delete the thread or if you edit out the text I didn’t write.
We can only delete threads which represent a valid personal safety or security concern (see our community guidelines). While we are unable delete the thread, I have removed the site URL :)

Thanks gemmacevans, that works for me. I would recommend not autoadding text in the future without letting users know, especially given this constraint.
