How do I set up an archive?
-
can’t find anything about setting up archives for back posts of blog
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.COM software automatically archives the posts you publish immediately upon publication. We bloggers do nothing other than displaying Archives.

I’m using the WP Archive “widget” on my WP Blog, and yes, it works well when you click on it and goes to another “page” to see older post. Cool…. The question I have, is: Can I now delete the posts since they’ve been “archived”?
What I’m trying to accomplish is taking the older post off my Home Page so it might load faster. As of right now, you’ll just keep scrolling down and down and down, and all the older post are still on the Home Page. Do you think I need to create another page, and them simply move them (old posts) over to that page to get them off the Home Page?
Thank you for trying to help an old man figure this out! You all are the greatest!

@mickey2travel – your site did not look too bad to me – you seem to have optimized your pictures well for the web – you can use the More Tag on some of your Posts to just display one picture on the front page.
I normally use one picture and a paragraph or two of text for the front page – but our site are a bit different
https://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/
Your entire blog is “archived” in the database and the Posts and Pages are loaded on the fly only when a visitor wants to read a Post, Page, Picture etc.

Thank you for your help! I’ll try to add the “read more” into some of the post, and maybe the Home page won’t appear soooooo long to load.
Thank you, again!

I have flagged this for staff attention, Is my blog working shows some errors on https://mickey2travel.wordpress.com/ , I have seen the same errors on other WordPress.COM sites – don’t know if the errors would affect load time or not
Also your internet connection can affect load times if it is not very fast (my connection is a bit slow)
Is my blog work

Hi @mickey2travel,
I agree with @auxclass, your site loads really fast. Nice image sizing. If you only want to show a few posts on you main page, it’s really simple.
I personally like 10 posts on the main home page, this way, people can find the footer, if you have one, and they don’t have to try and scroll continually to find what they’re looking for.
The other recommendation I have is to use the search bar widget, this way people can type in what they are looking for.
Enough of that rambling here is the step by step to limiting how many posts are on your home page.
1. Go to your Dashboard
2. Click on the Settings tab
3. Click on the Reading setting.
3. In this setting mode, you’ll notice underneath the Front Page Displays a setting to type in how many posts you want to show.
4. In this box type in 10 or the number of posts you want to show.
5. That’s it, click save at the bottom of the screen and you’re all set.Hope this helps.
Blessings,

Hello Mickey!
Your site came up really nice for me. Looks great!
Looks like they’ve taken good care of you in here. The only thing I would add is that you would not want to delete posts that are “archived.” That would delete them from the archive as well.

Good morning, Bruce! Thank you for your insight and all the help everyone has given. Again, I really enjoy being on WP, and appreciate the advice!
Have an awesome day!
