How do I set visual writing/editing as the default?

Text has become the default editor. I have to repeatedly change to Visual editor. I want Visual to be the default and am unable to find a way to do it. Please provide detailed instructions. I am not techy and do not understand tech slang. Thank you.

I did read this guide before I posted and I don’t think it applies in this case because my Visual editor is not missing. It’s just not the active editor. The writing page comes up in Text editor and I have to click the Visual tabcevery time I want to write or edit a page. I read that Visual is supposed to be the default editor but in my case it is not. Text editor appears to be set as the default and I can’t find a way to change it. I think that is what I need to know – how to set Visual editor as the default. Thank you.

Hi there. Did you resolve this? I’m having the same problem. My editor all of a sudden defaults to text when I would like it on visual. How do you change this? I tried the refresh mentioned above, it did nothing. I also tried using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer, also made no difference. It’s really annoying to have to switch back every time!!!

    Hi,
I just did a pair of test in mine, I might have an idea (you can test, if it does not work it won’t hurt). I went to a post done some time ago, hit “Edit” (full edit) and I was on the html tab editor. I changed for visual, hit the button “Update”, then went elsewhere (in the main board) and came back through “Articles”; I opened the post again: this time I was in the visual editor.

When I tried to hit “New post”, or “New page”, each time I was directly on the visual editor.

    I hope it helps.

OK so I just logged out and back in, tried it again and it was fine. Very weird. must have been a glitch but I will keep in mind in case it happens again. Thanks for the speedy reply!

Not speeding here. I was just around reading. :)
We’ll see if that helps blanchewallace too.

I tried Meylodie’s suggestion, but it didn’t solve the problem. It seems to be worse than ever. Now, when in visual editor and making an edit, hitting “Update” causes the page to revert to text editor. This is very frustrating. I wish I’d never chosen wordpress for my Blog.

    Hello everyone,
Will you both please undertake the following troubleshooting steps and report back step by step what you experience? That will help us isolate whether or not your issues are browser related and I suspect they are.

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html

If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache: http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

    2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies and JavaScript enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
    http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654

    3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.

Am running IE version 9.0.8112.16421; update version 9.0.17. Compatibility mode is not in use. No error reports have been received.

Suggested tests 1, 2 & 4 have been completed. I don’t know what #3 means or how to do it. There is no change to the text/visual editor problem. In fact, now when I try to edit a post and click on the “visual” tab, the area containing the post goes blank.

Absolutely nothing was intentionally changed by me in regard to my computer settings or wordpress settings between the time the visual editor stopped being the default editor and the text editor became the default.
