How do I shift my site to a new domain but keep designing with WordPress?
-
Hi,
I own the domain vanicemedley.com and would like to have my taraswell.com site be connected to that domain. Eventually I will let the taraswell.com expire but in the meantime Id like people to be automatically redirected to vanicemedley.com if they try to visit taraswell.com.
I also want to continue to use WordPress to design my site and keep that part the same. How would I do all this?
Thanks for your help!

Hi there!
First, you will need to map vanicemedley.com to your WordPress.com blog following the steps here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Step #4 on that page will show you how to set the new domain as your primary domain, meaning taraswell.com will redirect to vanicemedley.com.
Once you’ve done that, please let me know. I will bundle your new domain with your Premium bundle so that the bundle and new domain will be renewed together moving forward.
Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Thanks Jeremey!
Let me clarify a little more. I bought the new domain vanicemedley.com through godaddy. So what I need is to be able to continue to use WordPress to do the designing of my site but just have it sit with this other hosting service. Does your previous answer of mapping the new domain still apply?
Appreciate your help! -
Hi!
I believe so, but let me clarify to make sure we’re on the same page. You would like your domain to be registered with GoDaddy. However, you would like your site and content to be hosted at WordPress.com, meaning you would use your WordPress.com account to manage your site and upload new posts. Is that correct? If so, the Domain Mapping is the route you’ll want to go!
The other alternative would be if you wanted to setup a self-hosted blog on GoDaddy servers, which would be completely separate from your WordPress.com account.
I think you’re referring to the first option, but let me know if I’m mistaken!

Yes! The first option is right. Thanks for your help. My tech-y vocabulary is not very fluent. ;) I will do the mapping and then see if I have any more questions. Thanks again!
