How do i shorten my posts

on my blog the posts are all really long, like the whole blog, but i only want like the first couple of lines, so my page is easily seen and movable. But i already changed my settings, in reading, to for each article in a feed show summary and, in writing, i changed my default post format to aside. so i dont know why i still have these long posts that take up my whole page.
