How do I shorten the main page?

  I am wondering if there is a way to limit the amount of posts that are shown on the main page of the blog so that the page isn’t too long? I’d prefer to only show around 5 and then have the archives link on the side. Is that possible?

  Sure! You can change the number of posts which hare displayed on the home page from Settings > Reading in your dashboard.

  There’s an “Archives” widget which you can use to display a list of your posts/months you’ve posted in on your sidebar. This can be added from Appearance > Widgets in your dashboard.
