How do I spilt a post so someone has to click on it to see the rest?

  How do I spilt a post so someone has to click on it to see the rest? I want to de-clutter my main page and make more posts vixible. I have tried <!–more whatever and i hasn’t worked. I mus be missing a a step. can anyone take the time to walk me through it please?

  *shaking head* NO WAY, there was an icon? I was making it so much harder than it needed to be…I was trying to insert code by hand. Thank you so much!
