How do I stop Categories from appearing twice in my left sidebar?

I’ve set up a custom menu on the Oxygen template to list my categories there. However, they appear twice, once as visualised in the live template, and again as a standard formatted menu item immediately below. I’ve tried everything I can think of to remove them, including deleting all and starting again. Any advice very gratefully received.

They appear twice because you set the custom menu as your secondary menu but you also added a Custom Menu widgets and set it to display the same menu.
If you want to get rid of the bulleted list, go to Appearance > Widgets, open and delete the Custom Menu widget.
Or do you want to keep the bulleted list and remove the black menu? -
