How do I stop feedback spam from a contact form?
-
I have received over 90,000 spam feedback from a contact form since July 2013. I have removed all links to the form on my site but the spam continues. Today alone I received over 700. Question one: how do I stop the spam feedback? Question two: how do I remove all 90,000 at once instead of one page at a time?
Thank you

Hi Amy,
Yikes; that’s quite a bit. We run submissions through our spam filtering process. Of the 90,000, were most of them automatically labeled as spam or did you manually label it as spam?
You don’t need to remove them from the spam category; if they’re there, the system is working as expected.
Since it appears they’re coming in after the form has been removed, the spam bot generating the spam is submitting it directly against the server instead of working through your page. I’m researching if there’s a way to prevent this.
Thanks!

Hi, Kraftbj,
The spam were automatically marked as spam.Right after I posted my question I deleted the contact form which appears to have stopped the spam. Yea!! Now, will the remaining spam stay there forever or will it eventually go away?
Thanks for your help,

HI Amy,
It will stay there forever without intervention. I’m working through a fair number to spot-check to make sure our systems are working right.
It appears a spam bot or two picked up that registration form was hit it pretty hard. Even though they tried a few things to get around the spam checker, I’m glad to hear it was all captured.
There’s no harm in leaving them in spam, though I’ll write up a feature request to be able to “empty” the spam list. I understand wanting to keep things tidy!
Please let me know if you have any other questions or need anything else. Thanks!
