How do I stop follower spam?

    (email visible only to moderators and staff) is an example. I get one or two new followers like this every day.

    Hi there,

    Since anyone is able to follow any blog on WordPress.com as long as they have an account with us, the only way to eliminate spam followers is to set your site to be completely private. That way only people who you have invited to view your site have access. For most WordPress.com users this isn’t a usable solution, so they just allow for the existence of spam followers on their site.

    The good news is that as long as you do not interact with the spam followers (you do not approve their comments, etc), they cannot harm you and they gain little by following so many accounts.
