How do I stop links changing to https://
-
Hi,
Link urls in our blog posts are being modified to be https:// instead of http://. Many links no longer work because of this. How can we stop this from happening?
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There are two hyperlinks in this post, both of which in the editor are http:// but the published post is making them https so they don’t work.

I was not able to replicate this behavior with either the Visual or Text Editors.
Create a draft post or page with a http link within it, does it also convert to https when you Preview?

Scratch that — here’s your issue.
<a href="//www.chart-minder.com" target="_blank">Chart Minder</a><a href="//services.runescape.com/m=itemdb_rs/bestiary/">RuneScape Bestiary</a>Your hyperlink is malformed (it’s missing the http: part).
<a href="http:://www.chart-minder.com" target="_blank">Chart Minder</a><a href="http://services.runescape.com/m=itemdb_rs/bestiary/">RuneScape Bestiary</a> -
This is the HTML that is there already:
She also works on <a href="http://www.chart-minder.com" target="_blank">Chart Minder</a> (which lets you draw knitting patterns freehand, or scan from photos, with lots of other nifty tools) and was part of the almost entirely female team that put together <a href="http://services.runescape.com/m=itemdb_rs/bestiary/">RuneScape Bestiary</a> -
I just tried a new draft with a single link in, to a http://www link, and get the same problem. :(

Interesting! When I view the source, it clearly is missing the http: part of the hyperlink. Are you a Premium or Business plan user?

Hi there..
Had some time, just tried entering your links at my blog and they worked..? Maybe it is just a browser problem…?
(I wrote them as Test 1 and Test 2 here… if you want to check) They’re under the last youtube video. I did enter the ‘http’ but when you ‘hover’ over the links they leave it out, chart minder does quote www. though… (perhaps you should tag your query for ‘modlook’ as a staff member is sure to be able to fix it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks afreestyler. The post was originally written by someone else and I noticed the links were broken so tried to fix them, which means its broken for at least two of us so I think it’s most likely a configuration in our WP somewhere? I’ve tried rooting through (I’m not a regular WP user) but can’t find anything relevant.

While waiting for staff to jump in, have you tried to see if there was a difference in behavior when using the Text and Visual Editors? Do they both behave the same way?
-
Are you able to make any changes to that page that publish correctly? I see what you mean about the links in the editor being different than the ones in the published post, but as unlikely as this sounds, it seems your site content might be coming from somewhere other than your WordPress.com site. If that’s the case, we need to fix your dns settings and then fix the post.

lizthefair is on to something. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/ confirms that blog.poetica.com is not using WordPress.com nameservers. I saw the Admin Bar and trusted things were all squared away.

Thanks everyone – I think we’ve sussed it. It turns out a while ago we had to proxy the blog to add our https certs as we use HSTS for all subdomains. It seems the proxy is being a little overzealous and matching a few too many urls.
Sorry for the red herring, but thank you all for helping find the source of the issue!
