How do I stop losing paragraph breaks while editing?

  • Unknown's avatar

Very often – not always – I lose the paragraph breaks on a post that I’m editing. Occasionally I when I look at a completed post I find that the paragraph breaks have vanished. What can I do to prevent this from happening? Can you explain what to do in simple terms for a tech illiterate? Thanks!

    Hey Oliver!

Are you typing your posts directing into the Post editor? OR…are you copying and pasting them?

If you’re pasting them, you should paste them into the HTML tab in your post editor. Then, go over to the Visual tab to make sure your paragraph breaks are there. If not, add them at that time.

If you’re not sure where your HTML tab is, take a look at this:

    Thanks much!

Thanks for your very clear explanation of what I should be doing. Until I’ve been doing a mix of typing directly into the post editor AND copying and pasting there.

I’ll now either type directly OR paste into the HTML tab, as you indicated I should do.

One small follow-up question: if I paste into the HTML tab, can I then do revisions and format (add paragraph breaks, italics, justify, etc.) in the Post editor?

    Thanks again!

    Hey Oliver!

Glad that helped :) When you go back and forth, or copy and paste into your Visual tab, and do a good amount of formatting, sometimes the HTML tags can get a little funky. I believe this is why your paragraph breaks were collapsing.

Streamlining the process will be very helpful.

One small follow-up question: if I paste into the HTML tab, can I then do revisions and format (add paragraph breaks, italics, justify, etc.) in the Post editor?

My suggestion is to do this, yes. Should you experience any additional trouble, we can look into which formatting should be done in which tab…but this should actually work out great for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!
