How do I stop my blog being published with lots of meanigless text at the start?
-
My blog is always published with lots of text and now some background symbols, such as a pencil and words that are vertical such as edit which, I can’t delete
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Don’t copy and paste from Microsoft WORD is your answer but I’ll provide more. You need to be cautious and use the correct approach when copying and pasting from any document created in a word processor.
Microsoft Word is a word processing program that’s not compliant with web standards. The result of copy and pasting from Microsoft Word into the Tiny MCE editor in WordPress blogs can be unexpected, and contain a lot of formatting code that’s not compliant unless you know how to use the built-in features in the Visual editor for using Word cleanly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text
Go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
“save changes”I recommend using Windows Live Writer for posting to your blog > http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/

No wait! I see another Bon Press user is reporting a bug and it sounds like you are experiencing it too. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/why-does-bonpress-theme-suddenly-display-dates-vertically-as-of-two-days-ago?replies=3

Ah, thank you, that makes sense, I do copy and paste from Word. Thanks for explaining it. I’ve gone back to Blogspot for now.
That vertical edit/date thing isn’t going to be solved by using WLW though I presume?
I find WordPress really confusing generally to be honest. After about 5 minutes of editing I end up with about 6 different windows open and I have no idea where I am. I probably need a lesson on it. Any suggestions for a simple lesson? I only (up to now) use text on my blog, so it ought to be very simple.
Thanks for making the effort to help.

This is actually a bug in the BonPress theme. Our theme wranglers are looking into it and I’ll let you know when there’s a fix.
For general help with WordPress, the guide raincoaster linked to above is a great place to start: http://learn.wordpress.com
We also have a few popular “getting started” areas linked here:

I’ll keep you posted when the BonPress glitch is fixed.

The issue in BonPress should now be fixed. Just let us know if you see any further problems with it. Thanks for the report.

Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately the problem caused by copying and pasting from Word is still there though, which doesn’t occur with Blogspot. So, I think I’ll stick with that for now.
Thanks,

The copying and pasting from WORD issue has been dealt with above. Did you do this?

“save changes”Are you using the built-in features in the Visual editor for using Word cleanly as detailed here? http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

There is a Paste from Word button in the Visual Editor that should remove any extra junk code that carries over from Word, meant especially for this. The Paste plain text button that timethief linked to also works.
