how do i stop Reader from defaulting to an old WordPress blog?
-
I put Gigaom’s rss feed from their current site into Reader and it displays the rss feed from an outdated WordPress.com site.
Is that just how it is or is there something I can do about that?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks but now it’s working fine.
It wasn’t at first because I haven’t updated the feed since initially noting that problem.
I will recheck the deleted feeds and give them a day to see what happens.

Here we go:
http://blog.bittorrent.com/feed/This is the current Bittorrent blog feed. In Reader it shows a Gigaom icon and posts about Bittorrent from Gigaom from 3 years ago.
When I tried unsubscribing before resubscribing it also unsubscribed me from a separate Gigaom feed which was and is now again updating properly:
https://gigaom.com/feed/I’ll check out some more feeds later but I find that rather confusing.
-
Ah. Hmm. This may have happened because Gigaom is now a WordPress.com site. So you can follow them in your Reader through WordPress.com here:
https://wordpress.com/read/blog/id/14960843/
You don’t even need the RSS feed. :)
And the BitTorrent blog used to be a WordPress.com site, which is what’s causing that snafu. I’ve fixed this so you should see the correct BitTorrent feed now. Try refreshing the Reader if you don’t see the update.

Yes, it worked once I unsubscribed and resubscribed to BitTorrent Blog.
For some reason it’s not picking up the most recent item but I’ll keep an eye on that and check out more feeds later.
Thanks for your help!

Oh good. RSS feeds usually only update about once an hour, so the newest posts should filter through then.
Let me know if you have any more trouble with this.

Just went through all the feeds I currently subscribe to.
It was Venture Beat that defaults to an outdated WordPress site even when I put the current rss feed in:
http://feeds.venturebeat.com/VentureBeatI’m going to start re-adding feeds I pulled as well so there may be more.
-
Actually, you don’t need to mess with this anymore.
I need something that just works so I’ll keep looking for that.
Thanks again for all your help.

I’m sorry about that. VentureBeat just left WordPress.com recently, so their mapping isn’t completely up dated yet. I just pinged the developers working with them to get that fixed.
I wish the Reader had “just worked” for you. :( I’ll post to the team about these RSS issues and see if we can get some better resolutions moving forward.
Hopefully you’ve found another RSS feed reader that you like. I personally used Feedly after Google Reader went away, maybe you’ll like that one?
