How do I switch my content and Domain to wordpress?

I know that this is a forum for customers with upgrades, which I have, but my question is about another website I am working with so I hope you will help me anyway! For my work I am supposed to redesign a preexisting website but the staff are very much tech beginners. They do not know how the website was made or what it was made using. All I know is that it is hosted on BlueHost. The website is http://www.newbeginningsnh.org and I would like to use wordpress for it. How would I go about switching the content and domain name over? Should I create the website first and then use the domain they already have after? Sorry if this is a vague question I am just lost!

  • Hi there –

The first step would be to figure out if you are able to export the content of that site and convert it into one of the accepted formats for the WordPress importer, such as Moveable Type:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/#importing-content-from-another-platform-or-wordpress-blog

Once you have an import file in one of those formats, you can either set up a WordPress installation hosted with Bluehost, or you can start another blog here at WordPress.com. Then, you’d import the content from the old site into the new, and then move the domain to the new site.

Does this help? For help with exporting the content, you’ll need to contact Bluehost support.
