Add the Meebo widget to your blog. Go to the Meebo site and register an account (it’s free). You can add your Yahoo, AIM ICQ etc accounts to it if you wish, thats optional; I didn’t.
When you add the widget it will ask you to copy and paste the HTML code. You get this code by following instructions on the Meebo site. You name your widget (in my case “PM Me”) you choose your colour and size etc as well as your meebo name….after you go through all the questions, it will give you the code you need to copy and paste into the sidebar options on your blog.
Now people can talk to you directly from your blog. They choose their name and type a message, which you can then respond to. The way you see these messages is to log onto the Meebo site with your Meebo account, it shows your buddy list (the people who are talking to you) along with a little PM window for each conversation.
It is handy, and anonymous. The user does not need to give any of their AIM, Yahoo etc names, neither do you. They can change names every time and all you have to go on is the name they choose for that session.
To get a clearer view of how this works for your surfers, after setting it up, open another tab on your browser and have the Meebo page on one tab and your blog on the other…..play both sides of the conversation. When you see how easy it is, you may just be impressed.
You can also “lift” these PM’s which pops them out of the page to be separate items, making it a simple PM client….personally I try to use Trillian for PM’s when possible, but that involves letting people know your details.

“Talk” isn’t defined, but you have received information on two ways to do that.
First: Look at front page of the Forum
top of the page
Read the ‘stickies’ (–because they are permanetly posted) they stick, With: important basics you need to know listed. If you want to “talk” How To:
first put the keyword(s) of your topic into *SEARCH on the Forum page,
it will return most relevant results, cuz Believe it, Every question you have Has been asked, many times. If results don’t help or you don’t understand the answers: THEN ask here, in the Support Forum, and a blogger, who was once where you are, who knows the answer, will reply.
Or: Moderators Drmike or Trent will reply
–trust them, they are way Smart Helpful Knowledgable, though sometimes they forget WP can be confusing, so a step or two might be omitted; if so just ask. Some topics require help from WordPress staff
they might reply to your Forum thread. If not or you want to “talk” because something needs fixing:
go to your
Dashboard (blue band top of your blog, right corner) –> Feedback
a window will open –Monday thru Friday
to write your question;
wait for reply (sometimes they have Huge volume), be patient.
Reply will be sent to e-mail address you gave when you signed up.If by “talk”: you mean “where’s the phone number”
to call WP staff:
forget it! (Probably their families would like That number!)Last: if by “Talk” you mean you want to actually SEE WordPress techies
–face to face talk?
Then: plan on getting to San Francisco, in July…word is: there will be actual sightings of them, at “Word Camp”! There’s a Good Chance: they will talk…if not: we have ways, to Make them talk (lol).~Dirkgently: super good answer.

No problem, I actually just did a “how to” on this for easy reference for others. http://dirkgently.wordpress.com/2007/04/04/how-to-pm-in-wordpress-with-the-meebo-sidebar-widget/

A techie who Doesn’t leave out steps??? –Uses Human/basic/Actual English??? Way cool!
First time I saw “Meebo” was on: “Sidebar Widget” page (months ago) –but clueless, then, what it was, and too many things to do, to stop and figure it out. So your How To will be Very helpful, to many. (–That’s why I added the tag.) Thanks for posting!

Meebo is new to me as well, I only opened an account a few days ago and started poking about inside the Dashboard as to what I could do. That’s when I first encountered Meebo too. Seriously though, you give me too much credit. The instructions are laid out pretty good as they are….but a guide helps some, so I try to oblige.

I do try not to leave stuff out. That’s why the file uploader FAQ was 13 steps when I wrote it. :)
