How do I transfer a cancelled domain to another registrar?

  I just cancelled my domain wickedoffkiltah.com with the intention of transferring it to WestHost with the rest of my domains. I thought that cancelling or letting my registration expire would essentially free the domain for registration elsewhere.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi Mike,

  Unfortunately, domain names don’t work like that. You should only cancel or allow a domain to expire if you have no intention of using it in the future.

  Let me see if we can pull the domain back in. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back from our domain provider.

  Aaah, whoops. Well, if that’s the case I would like to re-register. Not the end of the world if I can’t I guess, but I would rather not lose the domain.

  Hey Mike,

  We were able to un-cancel it. You can renew it on your My Upgrades page at https://wickedoffkiltah.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

  For a transfer to a different registrar, you may be able to slide it in now before the grace period ends, but likely may need to renew it with WordPress.com, then transfer it after the renewal has been processed. Different registrars handle that in different ways.
