how do i transfer a domain from a different registrar

    i’ve inherited a simple fraternal organization website (with a different hosting service), which i’ve found to be much easier to maintain using wordpress … so i’ve completely redone the website using wordpress but it has been requested that we retain the old URL … but i’m new to domains / registrations / ownership, and I need some advice / guidance … what i’d like to accomplish is the following:
    1) take over the ownership of the domain … i’ve been in contact with the fellow who registered it
    2) map the old domain URL to the new wordpress site i created
    is it possible to do all this through wordpress, or do i need to involve another party for the domain registration transfer?

    Hi there,

    You would have to have the old owner change the ownership to you and this would all be done via the registrar. We wouldn’t be able to change this for you.

    2) map the old domain URL to the new wordpress site i created

    In order to do this, you’ll need to update the name servers with your domain registrar. This article explains how:

    The name servers for WordPress.com are:

    • NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

    If you’re not sure how to change them, please contact your registrar for assistance.

    Once you have updated the name servers, it may take up to 48 hours for the domain to be pointed to your WordPress.com site.

    Please note that you domain’s registration would still be with that registrar and you would only be hosting with us. While we register new domains here at WordPress.com, we’re not able to accept incoming transfers of existing domain names. So keep the domain registered with their current registrar and just map it to us using the guide I provided you above.
