How do I transfer a domain from one host to wordpress?
-
I’m currently hosting a website on 1&1 my website but due to their high rates and their horrible service I want to switch to wordpress and start with a fresh new site. My only concern is that I won’t be able to transfer my custom domain from 1&1 to wordpress. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can transfer my domain?

Hi,
Unfortunately it is not possible to transfer a domain to WordPress.com.
If you already have a domain and you want to use it with your WordPress.com blog, follow the instructions for mapping an existing domain. We do not currently support incoming domain transfers, but you can still get any domain to work with your WordPress.com blog.

Your two options are:
– you can continue hosting your domain with 1&1 and use domain mapping (paid service) here at WordPress.com OR
– you can register a new domain here at WordPress.com (also a paid service).Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!

Would it be possible then once I canceled with my current host I would be able to register it again with wordpress?

If you cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to re-register it. See a recent staff reply on this subject:
Cancelling a domain is risky, as most registrars won’t release it immediately, and when the domain is released someone else might register it before you even know it’s been released. So I wouldn’t advise that route.
