How do I transfer my existing domain to wordpress?

    Hi, I am currently in the process of creating a new site on wordpress (waorradotcom.wordpress.com). Our existing website (waorra.com) is hosted elsewhere, and is about the expire shortly. I’d like to transfer waorra.com to my WP account, is that possible? Do I need to wait for the old domain hosting to lapse (or cancel it), and then wait for it to become available in WP? How do I know if it will become available in WP? How long will it take? Is there a risk of someone else taking my domain in the meantime?

    Hi,
    WordPress.com doesn’t accept incoming domain transfers. Since you already have a domain, it’s best to keep it with another registrar rather than let it expire and try to register it with WordPress.com. There’s the very real possibility that your domain would be auctioned off or bought by someone else as it goes through the expiration process (about 80 days).

    You can still use waorra.com with your WordPress.com site, though, by choosing an upgrade called ‘domain mapping’. Here’s more info about that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
