How do I transfer my existing domain to WP? (Not just map it.)
-
I don’t see a way to transfer my existing domain to be registered at WordPress.com, so I can quit using my current registrar. I have already mapped the existing domain from another host to WordPress, but I’d like to simplify the billing and only deal with one provider. Is there a way to transfer my existing domain to WP? I am expecting to purchase the Premium WordPress.com upgrade for this new blog.

Hi there,
Currently, we cannot accept incoming domain transfers. Sorry! The best option would be to keep your domain registered with your current provider and continue mapping it to WordPress.com.

Thanks! Well that explains why I couldn’t find the option.
On a related note, is it true that WP provides a new domain (if available) and acts like the registrar with the Premium package? I saw haileynorth.net available thru WP.

That is indeed true! The Premium bundle comes with a free domain upgrade. You can either use that domain credit to map an existing domain or register a new one.
Currently, you’re using it to map haileynorth.com. Would you like me to remove that mapping so you can register a new domain instead? Alternatively, I can send a manual payment request for $13 and then we can use the domain credit to register a new domain. That way, you can have both haileynorth.com and haileynorth.net available.

Thanks for the offer, but I will keep the mapping only for now. Maybe if we can’t change the host servers to point to the WP DNS I’ll go for the new domain name.
