How do I transfer to a self hosted site, keeping the domain name?
-
I started two wordpress.com blogs around a month ago but have now realised that it does not give me enough options for what I want to do.
However I have now distributed the web addresses and so would like to keep the two domain names I have already been using. (www.lightupyourstreet.com and http://www.mappingyourmanor.com)
I have found support articles explaining how to transfer blogs to new domain names, but I just want to be able to host these two names myself.
If you could help that would be appreciated.

I’m sorry to hear you want to leave WordPress.com – is there anything you may need help with on your blogs while they’re still here?
Regarding moving your domains – when you register a domain with us (or with any other registrar), that domain belongs to you. You can use it however you want. By default, domains registered here will point to your WordPress.com blog, but you can make them point to any other site you want.
Once yyou have your new sites up and running, contact your new host and ask for their “Name Servers”. You should receive two or three addresses that you can then use to make your domain point to the new host.
Before you make the change, your domains will be using the WordPress.com name servers. When you change the name servers to the ones you receive from your new host, you will effectively be mapping your domains to the new sites you set up. Your old WordPress.com sites will no longer be available at these domains.
Note that you will probably also have to set something up with your new host, so that the domains point to the right site. Contact their support for more information.
For detailed instructions on changing your name servers or your domains, see the Domain Management support page.
Also note that we offer a service called Guided Transfer, whereby we upgrade an entire WordPress.com site – along with any upgrades or customizations you made to it – to a self-hosted WordPress.com install.

Thanks very much for the reply, very helpful
I might still use the WordPress.org software, but I want to be able to set up discussion forums and use other plugins, which I have only just realised I can’t do with the WordPress.com blog. I’ll give what you say a go.
