How do I unmap an external domain from my site?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just started over my website and I added a new primary domain. I made the original domain, which is an external one, secondary. I want to unmap the original domain (current secondary) and only leave the current primary domain. I just paid for as well so I want to make sure it transfers to the new primary domain.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there,

To disconnect the secondary domain, this can be removed via Upgrades > Domains.

The name servers of the domain can be reset or changed from:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

That said, I’d recommend leaving this in place (if you’re able to) as whilst this connection is in place – the redirect from the old domain to the new domain will be in place.

    I hope this helps.

Hi @aleone89 – I don’t see the option to do that on Upgrades > Domains. Could it be because the secondary domain that I need to remove is registered with an external provider?

Also, if I do this, will I keep the WordPress Business subscription on the website with the new domain (current primary) or is it tied to the original domain (current secondary domain).

Is the domain you wish to un-map the femdamentalist.com domain? If so, that domain mapping will have to be removed by the other admin on the site that “owns” that domain. They can go to Purchases in their profile, click on the domain, and then near the bottom click Remove Subscription. That will remove the domain from the site here.

Once that is done, if it is to be used on another web host, the name servers will need to be changed at the domain registrar.
