How do I unsubscribe? Terrible intro to wordpress
-
I posted a comment on the wordpress subscription announcement entry and after ten days my post still says “Your comment is awaiting moderation.” Add that to the list of pita aspects of wordpress. Following is my original post; I’d sure appreciate it if someone who knows how this ‘system’ is supposed to work could help me get disentagled from it.

What an intro to wordpress.I wanted to make a comment on a wordpress blog. To do so I had to use a real email address so I did. In order for my comment on that blog to be approved, I had to confirm a subscription to that blog so I did. The comment went up on the blog. Fine. Now I want to unsubscribe to the blog; I only needed to make the one comment. I cannot, or if there is a way, god show me how. There is certainly nothing on the blog I subscribed to about unsubscribing. The email that invited me to create the subscription says I can manage my subscriptions via the wordpress Manage Subscriptions page. But I can’t use that till I join wordpress. So I do. And it says I have no subscriptions, even though I use the same email address for the initial blog subscription, and joining wordpress.
I am glad if all of you find this terrific, but to me it’s the stupidest experience of it’s kind I’ve been through. Normally to comment on a blog, if you have to confirm your validity as a sender by supplying and confirming via email, there is a plain jane ‘unsubscribe me’ link. The wordpress system is approx a nightmare.

It is a wordpress site as far as I can see. It has a ‘search wordpress.com” field at the top and at the botton it has stuff like this
WordPress.com | Thanks for flying with WordPress!
Manage Subscriptions | Unsubscribe | Publish text, photos, music, and videos by email using our Post by Email feature.I’m not going to post the name of the blog because I don’t want to drive traffic to the site.

You say that you do NOT wish to post the name of the site. To me that sounds like a pretty strong indication that the recipient of your comment may have chosen not to approve the comment. There is no way any blogger is compelled to approve every comment they receive. In this case the blogger may have marked it as “trash” or “spam”.
-
You can manage your subscriptions by going to “subscriptions” in your dashboard. Delete the subscriptions you do not want anymore.
Since you are unwilling to give us a link to the blog, you will have to deal directly with staff.
-
“Your comment is awaiting moderation.” just means that whoever is running the site does not care much about comments and has it set to approve all comments, I do that to make sure there is not spam on any of my sites.
Sometimes it takes a day or three for me to approve a comment as one of my sites is on boating safety and it can take a bit of research to properly answer a question that is posted in a remark.
-
Also, you can manage it from the links in the email you received when you subscribed to the blog.
-
This bit: In order for my comment on that blog to be approved, I had to confirm a subscription to that blog so I did makes me think it’s a VIP blog, in which case the beef is with the blog itself and their management. None of the out-of-the-box WordPress.com blogs do this.
-
I can see that none of you really read my post; anyways it’s not your problem.
The original site I subscribed to so that I could make a post did post my comment.
The site that has a comment of mine awaiting approval for ten days is wordpress.com itself. Here, on the main wordpress site, they had a blog entry about how great the new subscription feature was. My post not been approved either because I was not bubbling over with joy about the new feature like everyone else was, or else because they (andy p was the article author) are too busy congratulating each other about the new feature to care about monitoring comments. That post is http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2010/09/10/introducing-subscriptions, and I would guess the comment I made is not visible there to any of you as it’s not approved.
I will just ask the owner of the original blog to take me out of the subscription, that’s no big deal.
But this is also my first direct exposure to wordpress. It’s been a complete mess and bother. I’ve used a lot of other CMS and thought this was one of the wise old ones in the crowd. But while I’m sure it’s a good thing, anyone caring to read my entry above will see that somethings are screwy with the system.
Re thesacredpath…you didn’t read what I wrote. The entire point of my writing here on the main wp site was to try to give someone notice that my one and only subscription does not show up in “my subscriptions”. Every step I’ve taken with the marvelous wordpress software has introduced me to features that do not work; both with the original site and with the primary wordpress site. I kind of thought someone at wordpress would care to know about it.

I would like to address this statement:“Your comment is awaiting moderation.” just means that whoever is running the site does not care much about comments …
In my first year of blogging I went on a vacation and stupidly announced that on my blog. It was mercilessly spammed and when I returned I spent hours fishing through hundreds of comment in the spam filter. Never again! I now longer announce when I am going to be away. Perhaps this is also the case when it comes to the blog in question.
-
justjennifer, as I wrote in my op, it is not true that “you can manage it from the links in the email you received when you subscribed to the blog.” I can’t.

If you read the comment policy at the bottom of the page on the WordPress.com blog, you’ll see it says
Please do not use these comments for asking questions, support, or bug reporting, use the forums or support contact form for that.
Please read our comment guidelines before posting.
Sorry you had a bad experience. I’m sure Staff would love your feedback. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

@presserp-not even the “unsubscribe” link in the email? Please feel free to use that feedback form I mentioned above.
Cheers!

You said:In order for my comment on that blog to be approved, I had to confirm a subscription to that blog
Picking up on what raincoaster said
… so I did makes me think it’s a VIP blog
Is the blog in question a VIP hosted blog or not? Scroll down to the right hand coner of the blog footer and click the link. Does it link to http://vip.wordpress.com/

Staff has been out for quite some time at meetings. During that time I don’t think many, if any, blog posts to the official blog were probably approved. The other thing is that it depends on the nature of comments. They do not want support related comments in those posts typically. In the past I’ve seen them specifically post in those official announcements if you have problems either come to the forum or contact staff directly.
Contact staff with your concerns and complaints. That is your best recourse.

@timethief – good point on the vacation thing – did not think of that (I have gotten used to checking things every day or two and only thought of the long weekend thing).
One of my sites is now averaging 100 spam comments a day, so I hate to think of the backlog if I take any extended time off!

@auxclass
Worse still is announcing you are going to stop blogging in your blog and provide a date. When I did that an a$$hat claimed my blog (and 15 other blogs that weren’t his, as the bloggers likewise announced their dpearture from blogging) and registered all of them at myblogog and other social networking sites as though they were his blogs. Yes, it got sorted because I was persisitent but exceeding polite and very firm. He was banned and blacklisted from all the sites and from Technorati too. -
