How do I update?

I’m extremely new to blogging, and it’s probably a stupid question, but how do I update my site to make it a little more secure? I’ve seen the many hosting companies that are WordPress-friendly, but what is the next step after signing up with one of them. I signed up with Lunar Pages, but when I tried to click onto the control panel, a message came up saying ‘There is a problem with this site’s security certificate’. It sounded so dodgy, that I have now cancelled my subscrption with Lunar Pages. Lost money, but would rather be safe than sorry. I would appreciate som advice.

I think you might be in the wrong forum. You sound like you have a self-hosted WP.org blog and those work differently to our blogs on WordPress.com. If you go over to http://wordpress.org/support/ they should be able to help you.
If your blog is a WP.com blog then you don’t have to worry about it. WordPress has excellent security and back up as they host over 2,000,000 blogs. As long as you have a secure password you should be fine.
