How do I upload a video to my wordpress blog?

    I have taken a video using my camera that has saved as a .AVI file. Because of the file type it appears I can’t upload it to my blog. Does anyone know if (and how) I can convert the file type, or any other way of uploading such a file to the blog? I don’t really want to pay for an upgrade if I can avoid it. Thanks
