How do I use a gallery to create links to other pages?
-
I would like to have a page with a photo gallery where each picture, when clicked, links to another page (not just a larger version of the photo, but a page). How do I do that?
Thanks,
Kate

Hello —
I’ve tried linking the thumbnails to an Attachment Page — repeatedly. I’ve even tried different combos of saving the information. I keep putting the correct URL into the “Link URL” space, saving the information, updating the gallery settings and updating the page and nothing works. When I go back to the “Link URL” space in the gallery settings, the URL has magically changed back to the “show a big version of the thumbnail” URL. No matter what I do, the URL I input won’t stay.

The Link URL field actually overrides the Image File or Attachment link settings.
Make sure that the Link URL field is blank, then try changing it to the Attachment page link.

Hello again,
I’ve tried leaving the “Link URL” field blank — frankly, I’ve tried every combination of linking there is — and the second I move on to a different screen, it repopulates that field with the old picture link no matter what I do. I’ve read the Gallery instructions several times now to no avail.
Either you are not understanding my problem or we are talking at cross purposes. Just to be clear:
This is the site where I want to place the gallery:
This is the first photo I want to place in the gallery:
I want that photo to link to this page:
How do I make that happen? Do not tell me to consult the instructions again — I have already done that. I’ve spent hours on this and I’m getting very frustrated. Every time I tell the gallery settings to do something, the choices I’ve inputted are immediately replaced with something else.
I would very much like a step-by-step explanation of how to do what I’ve described above. I do not want a link to a larger version of the thumbnail (regardless of whether it’s formatted like my blog or not) — I want a link to an entirely separate page.

Oh, thank you!
That does make much more sense, and it is unfortunately impossible.
The gallery is designed to only display photos and link you to larger forms of the photos (either via original file or attachment page). There is no way to link gallery objects elsewhere.
What you’re doing now, single the photos are just displayed in a single column, could be accomplished with just basic image inserts.

I apologize, another way to accomplish this managed to slip my mind, but I was fortunately reminded by one of our awesome forum volunteers.
You can use an HTML table to accomplish something similar to what you were after with the gallery.
If you’re unfamiliar with HTML tables, see this great guide: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_tables.asp
