How do I use a theme as a template?

    Rather than starting from scratch, I’d like to start with the theme demo as a template and change & delete to customize. I’m specifically wanting to work with the Rowling theme. Can this be done? If so how?

    You can navigate to https://wordpress.com/theme/rowling and click on “Activate This Design” button to activate Rowling theme and start your customization. Keep in mind that you need to be logged in to your WordPress.com account for this to work.

    Hi Colton,

    If you don’t yet have the Rowling theme activated on the site, then @mirocm’s advice is a good start. However, your request suggests that you may have already discovered that switching to Rowling by activating it doesn’t add demo content.

    In the strange nomenclature of today’s WordPress.com, Rowling is considered an “advanced” theme. How to add demo content to such a theme is covered in the “If You Choose an Advanced Theme” subsection of the “Add Demo Content” section of the Changing Themes support page.

    The options are manual setup and automatic setup. If you choose the latter, then add a “modlook” tag in the sidebar of this topic to call for staff. Staff will respond here, and they can add demo content for you.

    Sorry, the manual setup option that I mentioned above isn’t appropriate in this case. I’ll add the “modlook” tag to call for staff, and (if possible) they will add that content for you.
