How do I use an authorisation code to transfer a domain into WordPress?
-
Hello. I recently (but more than 60 days ago) registered a new domain with another host. However, I have now decided that I would like this domain to be hosted by WordPress. I have asked this other host to change their domain name servers to point to WordPress, but they say they do not provide this service. Instead they have given me an authorization code (auth code) for transferring the domain. What do I do with this auth code – can I use it to transfer the domain myself, or do I have to contact WordPress support and ask them to do it for me? I’m aware that I’ll have to pay to register this domain again.
Thanks.

WP.com doesn’t currently accept incoming domains. That just means for renewal, you have to deal with your current host. You can still use the domain on your blog here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
I don’t see any way to use an Authorization Code, though.

Thank you for your help. I’ve decided to stick with the host I’ve already got (while keeping the WP blog).

Hello,
I am in exactly the same predicament and wondered if there is any solution to this?
I purchased a domain name a few days ago with another web hosting company (regretfully!) but realised that they can’t provide me with what I require design-wise.
I have cancelled my package with the other company and they provided me with an authorisation code in order to transfer the domain name. Am I to understand from the reply above I can’t transfer hosting to WP?
Thanks.

Hello – I can’t help you I’m afraid. I never cancelled my deal with my original hosting company, and since what they offer is not too bad (though perhaps not as flexible as WordPress) I’ve decided to stay with them.

You can easily transfer hosting. You can’t transfer domain name management. That means you can have your domain registered elsewhere and just point hte nameservers here and get hosting here and blog away.

This sounds promising, thanks raincoaster! So if I can repurchase the name though the original company (which I’m hoping is easy enough), what steps would I need to take with WordPress to be able to host/edit etc with them?
