How do I use gallery function in Twenty Eleven?

  When I want to insert a photo on a page, the options seem to be size and position – gallery does not seem available. However, when I tried to insert a small jpg image onto the page, a gallery facility opened and I could place a number within.

  Is there an optimum size for photos and / or graphics in order to use the gallery function or get it working?

  The Gallery tab will be visible in the Image Uploader if you upload multiple photos to the same Post or Page and then click the “save changes” button.
