How do I use the Search WordPress.com. No matter what I search for I get nothin
-
I assumed this was a help link. If so it doesn’t work.
Blog url: http://wisair.wordpress.com/ -
-
I have no idea how to check that out.
My Mac has only one browser “Safari”
Is it a help link?Hank
-
Google has detailed instructions on how to do that, right here:
http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050Could you tell me what you’ve assumed is a help link that doesn’t work and where you have seen it?

The WordPress.com search engine only searches through post content, so you won’t find your blog if you’re searching by title or name.
What specifically are you searching for?

I am trying to figure out how to get started using WordPress.
I have a blog http://wisair.wordpress.com/ that I have been trying to set up, but can’t figure out how to get the “Monitor” category menu item to drop down and contain 7 pages that I have created to show out Air Pollution Monitor output.
Can Categories contain pages? -
You’re almost there, just need to drag the desired child pages below their parante pages in the menu at Appearance -> Menus.
See this for more info and a video tutorial: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
-
OK I did that, but the pages I dragged under the parent (both categories and Pages) are unreadable. I even made the Parent menu item longer, but it made no difference.

Also it is difficult to click on the children as the dropdown menu dissappears when you move your curser down. -
Unfortunately, it looks like your theme is quite a bit older than most (released in 2006) and wasn’t designed to handle drop-downs in the menu.
I’ll pass this on for an enhancement request.
-
Well that is the best news I have heard all day! Thank you …I spent much time beating my head against the wall on this one….I thought it was my screwup.
I guess I will look for a new theme that will work, assuming I can just flip everything over to a new theme? -
Would you please suggest a theme that will work for me.
I have many topics and would like to group them into as many categories as possible, but am unsure what happens to drop down menus if the categories word wrap on the menu. -
Well, my personal favorite is Twenty Eleven. It’s really a great theme.
Did you have any other criteria?
-
-
Could someone let me know how to open my blog up to new posts from readers.
I have been to the help pages and they all seems to relate to administration posting, not asking for general readership posting.Hank
-
Are you referring to comments, or do you actually want readers to publish their own posts?
-
Well from your tone I guess I want them to comment and then I have the option of publishing the posts.
I am not too sure I am using the correct terms, but I thought that’s how blogs were supposed to work, and I want reader input.
-
Yes, it definitely sounds like you’re referring to comments.
You can enable them following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/
Note that you will have to enable them individually on each currently published post. Instructions for this are also in the above guide.
-
Well I have spent hours on that link and have checked both discussions and comments and nothing appears different on the referenced page. There is still no obvious way to leave a comment.
I did set the global comment as checked.

Send me a post if you can. I can’s see any place to do it.

The option that you checked enables comments on future posts only.
For all existing posts, you’ll need to edit them individually and follow the “Enabling and Disabling comments using the Discussion module” section of the http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/ guide.
