How do I wrap text around an image?
-
I used to be able to wrap my text down the side of my image but I can’t do it in this new format. How do I do it? Also, where has the media library of stock images gone?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Let’s deal with the last question first. WordPress.com removed Zemanta but Zemanta can be easily re-installed via the browser extension. http://www.zemanta.com/download/

I do not use the new Beep Beep Boop editor https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-post-editor-improvements?replies=11.
At this time I use only the editor on my dashboard > Posts > Add New
See here please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#alignmentThe alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that’s centered without text on either side of it.
Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.
Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.
Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).
If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.
To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the Text (HTML) editor after each image/text pair:
<div style="clear:both;"></div> -
Thanks very much for your help timethief. Once I’ve downloaded Zemanta to my laptop, how do I get it into WordPress?
-
Sigh … it’s browser extension.
Install Zemanta browser extension and it will load automatically when you start a new post. http://www.zemanta.com/download/
-
Bear with me here. I’ve got it zipped and downloaded on my computer but I’m not sure I’ve actually installed it. When I start a new post, there’s nothing there under media
-
After you added the extension did you log out, clear your browser cache and then log in again?

Hi timethief and theamateurchristian,
Although I know the rules for aligning text and images, I do have a problem that suddenly occured yesterday evening. I have this test site that I use for teaching students how to use WordPress, but all of a sudden 2 weird things happened:
1. The text fell out of the box. Instead of making a paragraph from the text I entered, it is one line that goes far beyond the right sidebar of my site.
2. When I enter an image and click ‘align right’, it’s placed in between two lines of text. On the right, but not with the text on the left, as used to happen before.Do you have any clue as to how I can solve this problem? My blog is a private test site that shouldn’t be publicly visible, so I’d prefer to not give the URL. Is there an option to add screenshots to this post instead?
Thanks in advance,
Hieke -
Hi there,
Can anyone please answer my question? It’s already a week ago since I posted.
Any help is very much appreciated!
Maybe timethief can help out?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Hieke,
You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, and support staff can take a look there. Alternately, you can use an online service like Snaggy to share the screenshots. That’ll help me understand exactly what you’re seeing on your end. :)
-
O, that’s good to know! If staff can look in the media library, they can also look at that particular post I’m writing about. Right? If so, I can post that title and staff will see the weird result.
-
Yep! If you can post a direct link to the post that would be most helpful, to make sure I’m looking in the right blog.
-
Okay! Please check this post. The content doesn’t make any sense, it was just to show how posting works.
I’m very curious about what went wrong. The error has 2 parts:
1. The text crosses the right border of the website, it doesn’t fit.
2. The image cannot be placed at the right place. Thanks in advance!
-
Hi Hieke, thanks for sharing that example. :)
1. The text crosses the right border of the website, it doesn’t fit.
I noticed that the text you entered doesn’t have any spaces in it — it’s a solid block of characters. The theme you’re using won’t break up lines like that because there aren’t spaces. In normal text, however, there will be spaces between each word and the theme will wrap the text to fit the space.
If you’d like to test that, I’d recommend using Lorem Ipsum or other filler text that’s designed to look like regular text (instead of random characters) so you can get a sense of how it’ll look.
2. The image cannot be placed at the right place.
I don’t see an image in that post. Can you try adding an image with regular text (such as Lorem Ipsum) so I can see what happens?

Hi rachelmcr,
The problem’s solved, yay! Thanks. Both text and image behave the way they should.
I’ll remember forever that text needs spaces thanks to this mistake I made. It was very educational, thanks again.
Have a nice day! (Or evening, like here in Holland.)

I wanted to mark this thread as solved, but I can’t choose an option, it only states ‘is not solved’. So maybe a moderator can close this issue?
-
Hooray, I’m glad that solved it! :) You’re very welcome, and I’ll mark this thread as resolved for you.
Have a lovely evening! (I’m in Wales, so it’s evening here as well.)
