How do my friends access my blog
-
I have sent invitations but most people can’t follow the instructions they are very confusing. Please email me idiot instructions–step by step no matter how obvious you think. Even the 2 people that are in said it was a nightmare to navigate.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
The instructions in the “Invite People to View Your Private Blog” section of the Inviting Contributors, Followers, and Viewers support page are quite straightforward.
1. Go to Users -> Invite New in your dashboard.
2. In the Invite a New User to Your Blog section at the bottom, type the user’s email address or WordPress.com username, if you know it.
3. Select Viewer from the dropdown.
4. Your invited Viewer will receive an invitation email. They will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If they are logged into their WordPress.com account, they will be taken directly to your blog. If not, they will be taken to their Subscription Management page where they can manage all blogs they follow and adjust their email delivery frequency.
What part of it is causing the trouble?

I have followed all steps. What is not clear to outsiders is that they have to set up an “account.” Step 4 implies this. The problem is all my viewers don’t belong. In effect they’ve had to do step 3,4 and then 3 again. I think we’ve sorted it but all have complained its not user friendly for an outsider. Thanks for your help

Actually, step 1 implies that the invitee has a WordPress.com account. By definition a “User” is a WordPress.com member. If choosing to send the invitation to the email address of a non-user (non-member) results in an invitation being sent, then obviously it will be received by someone without an account, and the procedure would need to be different than that for an invitation recipient with an account. At the very least, as auxclass suggests, the wording in the instructions needs some adjustment.
In effect they’ve had to do step 3,4 and then 3 again.
Perhaps you’re referring to a different set of steps. Step 3 in the instructions I provided above is something the administrator of the site sending the invitation does.

Ok. But my point is still that all the people I have invited aren’t a part of wordpress but they are family and friends and I only want them to see it. I have never done this (blog) before and neither have they (read or wrote). Your system isn’t really “newbie” friendly for some things. Anything you can do to explain how non wordpress/blog/technophob people can read a blog/my blog would be helpful.
Thanks
M

Hi there,
Sorry for the confusion! If someone doesn’t already have a WordPress.com account, the invitation email includes a link to create a new account before they accept the invitation. (When your blog is private, every viewer needs to have an account and log in before they can view it.) Once they create their account, they can go back to the email and accept that invitation.
I’ll pass along your feedback to our team so they can consider how to clarify those steps or simplify that process for new viewers invited to your blog. Thanks for the feedback!
