How do paste a figure into a draft and have it show up in the post?

A figure copied from MS Word looked fine in the draft. I deleted it to add a new version, but this time it wouldn’t paste. I took a screen shot of it and that did paste OK. When I posted it, the figure was missing , replaced by a question mark icon.
