how do split content up and index in properly?

    Hi have tried to find out answers to my questions via search box and forums but drew a blank. How do I create topics along the top of my blog? Do I use pages? For example would create a page, title it and move all the relevant posts to that topic?
    Secondly, once I have done this I would like to index properly/have a contents page for blog and can’t find answer to that either. Thanks for your help.

    1) No, you don’t create pages: you create a custom top menu and add your categories to it. For details on custom menus see this post of mine:

    Note that in the theme you’re using the “top” menu will actually show in the sidebar.

    2) A contents page can be done in various ways – depends on your definition of “properly”. The simplest is the archives shortcode (it will automatically create links to all your posts in reverse chronological order):
