How do successful bloggers get people to read their blogs?

How can I get more people to view my blog posts? I am a solitary and bookish person who keeps pretty much to himself, not out of any bad feelings towards others but because of shyness and social awkwardness, reinforced by seven decades of life. As a result, I don’t have any friends, and am not that close with family members, although I have tried to be. I work for myself (freelance writer) so I don’t have any work colleagues, per se. Thus, I can count on one hand the people who will have any interest in what I write because of who I am. And since none of them are avid or even occasional readers, they must be dragged, snapping, snarling, and biting, to my blog to see what is there. Like all bloggers, I would like people to read what I write online. Unfortunately, I don’t have any good ideas on how to make this happen. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi! I’m in the same boat. My friends and family members really like my blogs which makes me very happy! I did get a comment today from someone I don’t know, so I didn’t post it . . . don’t know what the risk is there but WordPress prompted me to be sure I wanted to approve it. You can’t just search for “adaytocelebrate” because I don’t show up (boo hiss).

@mickey – the blog on your name is only 1 month old – with I think 3 posts – it can take up to a year for blogs to sort of pick up and go – write more – the more that is written the better search engines like your site – also use some Tags –
All the other questions like yours have had sort of a stock reply from those that know “write more and be patient”

@in front of a name is short hand to call attention to a name and indicate that the response is directed to a specific person – if a thread had 20 people in it and I just said “only 1 month old” it might not be obvious.

Also look at the opening section of the support documents – they do a pretty good job in the support doc’s – sometimes it takes a couple of links to get the answer – and you can always stop in the Forum and ask for clarification – many of the people that help here are unpaid volunteers – makes us feel better if you have at least made a try to find help from the docs.

Use Twitter with descriptive titles linking back to your blog. People search Twitter for certain search terms. I start complaining about Sarah Palin and then conservative Republicans start following me who are complete polar opposites of me.
