How do visitors of my blog leave comments?

I’m confused. My blog is hosted thru WordPress and I’m confused over how visitors will leave a comment. My blog says that you must be logged in to leave a comment but then when I log in as a “visitor” (someone who does not have an account), it doesn’t recognize my login. There must be an easier way for people to leave a comment (without logging in or registering), right?

Can you outline the process for me on how a visitor would leave a comment?

    My blog URL is http://journey2lw.wordpress.com/.

Go to options > general and uncheck the box next to “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” and then click “update options.”

Check your settings on the page Dashboard –> Options –> Discussion. You probably have it set to accept only people logged into WordPress, or you’ve got comment moderation on (that’s the default; all blogs have that to start with). You can change the settings there and hit Save or Update or whatever it is on that page, and it should be fine.

If you go to your Admin -> Options -> Discussion, you can change it so they don’t have to be logged into comment. It will then show a form to fill in with name, email address and optional website for visitors. If they are wordpress.com members, they can also login to comment, but that opens it up to everyone on the net.

I posted a test comment which is in moderation at this time. :)

The above will make it so they only have to enter their name and email to leave a comment. If you want, also check out options > discussion and adjust the settings there for how commenting will work and then again click “update options” when you are finished.

    I’ll leave then. Enjoy!

Thank you all for your help with this :) Your suggestions did the trick!

One more question … how will novice blog readers know to click on the “No comments” link below my entry to leave a comment? I’ve posted a statement in each of my entries to let them know to click on that link but I shouldn’t have to do that.

Can I change the language in that link?

Anyone who has been to a blog on virtually any platform, will quickly know how to find the comments and make one. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I have a family friend who is in her 70’s and my blog was the first one she ever visited, and on her first visit, she figured out how to leave a comment. If you feel more comfortable, you can keep putting the information at the end of the posts, or you could also create a text widget, title it “Comments” and then put the information in there and place it at the top of your sidebar.
