How do we control who appears on the blog as "Author"?

There is only one genuine author for this blog and that is “Kelly Turney”
When a tech support individual is added with ‘administrator’ privileges, how do we keep that person’s name and gravatar from appearing on the published blog as an Author?

This is confusing — I removed “happyoldfrog” from being an admin on this blog, but he is still being shown as an “Author”.
Yes, happyoldfrog left a published comment on the blog, but surely that should not be constituted as Authorship of the blog!
    What do I not understand?

By default, the author of a post is set to the username you are logged in as when the post is first created. You can change the author by updating the Authors option though. Note that it’s possible to move modules around on the page so look around until you find the Authors module and select the appropriate one before saving. It’s also possible to hide the module in screen options, so check that too if you can’t find the setting right away.

You can also change the author of a post in the same way on the edit page after it is published.

If a tech support individual is editing your blog with Administrator privileges, they should select your name as the post author before they publish.

Removing a user won’t remove them as author from past posts, the posts themselves need to be edited individually or by using the bulk edit feature.

That’s confusing and the process you describe (if I understand it correctly) is patently misleading. … or you are not addressing my question.

I expect that a comment on a blog post does *not* constitute authorship of the blog. And to change the commenter’s ID to that of the blog owner/author has to be wrong.

So I ask again: How do we assure that there is only one “Author” listed for the blog while permitting diverse responder/commenters? (properly credited with their own ID’s, of course)

  • You still have a discarded comment from the user lingering in your Trash. I emptied the trash, which has removed the user as an Author. Basically, even though you removed the user from your blog, the comment was still made while the user was considered an author.

Alternatively, if you do want the user to stay on your blog, at Appearance -> Widgets in your blog’s Dashboard, open the Author widget that you’ve placed in the sidebar and uncheck “Display all authors (including those who have not written any posts).”

OK – in parallel I stumbled on the “Display all authors (including those who have not written any posts).” option on the theme panel and disabled it.
(Didn’t know/recognize any Author widget, though — I’ll look again.)
But I don’t understand why that would have been ON by default. :(
And now I have reinstated myself as happyoldfrog as admin w/o showing up as Author — at least not yet. ;)
Hopefully the issue is resolved going forward.

    Thanks for the assistance.
