How do we get control of a wordpress.com website after losing contact with the developers?

    Hello

We are trying to get hold of https://helenepascal.wordpress.com in order to map it back to helenepascal.co.uk as was previously in place. Helene does not have control of this account herself so trying to find out how we go about regaining control.

Let’s see what we can do to help.

First step, if you have access to the email address associated with the account is to use the password recovery tool:

    http://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

If you do not have access to the email associated with the account, you should see if you have any of the account verification information options here:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

    Thank you.

I don’t even know the email address or username that the WordPress website is associated with. It was set up on Helene’s behalf by a previous developer who has long since disappeared.

We assumed it would be on her account with associated email address (email visible only to moderators and staff) but it is not this account.

And no, I do not have any of the proof of ownership information as I was not involved in the setup and the company that did it have ceased.

Are you able to confirm at least if the account was set up by a company called Round Island or if it has an @ROUNDISLAND.NET email address? http://www.ROUNDISLAND.NET now points to a completely unrelated website.

    Thank you very much.

    Best regards

    Joel

    Joel –

You can recover the account with proof of ownership. One item that will get you back in to the account would be the receipt or transaction information.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transaction-id/

Use that information to submit the account recovery form:

    Recover Your Account

We can’t give out any information about account.

    Hello

I am unable to provide proof of ownership as neither I nor Helene own this account. It was set up on her behalf by a third party who is no longer contactable.

If you look at the website and we can prove that she is the person who the website was made for then is there a way to take control like this?

You can also maybe confirm that helenepascal.co.uk was mapped to this site until recently but that for some reason the mapping is no longer in place – perhaps because it has been left to expire.

I know domain registrars have a similar proof of identity process in place to handle situations like this so please consider how Helene might retake control of her website without having to build it all again. Perhaps a scan of a passport or driving licence or similar…?

    Thank you

    Best regards

    Joel

    Hi joelkriteman,

As staff-zinnia mentioned, WordPress.com sites and accounts can only be recovered with proof of ownership — we can only accept the information listed on the account recovery form (not passports or driving licences etc). I understand you really want to recover the site but for security reasons, we are unable to help you do so without proof of ownership.

If you no longer have contact details for the original owner, you could try reaching them through social media, LinkedIn etc.
