How do you add navigation in mistylook
-
I can’t work out how to add tabs at the top of the page navigation in mistylook. Anyone? Thanks

It’s quite simple, you just need to go to Dashboard > Write > Write Page. The title for each page that you write will be added to the navigation. So for instance if you create a page called Contact, then you’d have “Contact” next to “Home” at the top of your blog. Hope that helps. :)

thanks cj. a question though. I’m trying to move my blog from blogspot, but before I do that I need to understand wordpress. (I seem to be having some difficulty with this, as they work quite differently) In blogspot my navigation at the top of the blog works like categories. If the mistylook navigation is a page, what would you use it for? Can you have links to those pages.

As cj said, your Contact form could be one page. Your About page would be another. Archives would be one. MistyLook has a built in template for Archives, like most themes, but is one of the few with a really nice built-in contact form.

Pages exist outside of the structure of your blog; that is, they’re separate to your posts. So what they’re really useful for is something like an about page or a contact page, or if you post poetry or content that wouldn’t suit a post. It sort of means you can make your blog more like a website, if you want to; whereas your posts will eventually be forced down by your newer ones, a page will always be visible. Does that make sense?
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/11/a-post-and-a-page/You can still have the category navigation as well, though. What you’d do is go to Dashboard > Presentation > Widgets and put the category widget in your sidebar. That way people can click on a category and see just the posts for that category. If you’re not sure what I mean I’m using MistyLook myself, so you could always click my username and see it in action. Hope that helps you; once you get the hang of WordPress I’m sure you’ll like it. :)

thanks again both of you! I get it now. cj, I like your archives on a page – it keeps the site really neat. If I create a page, I call it Archives. When I create a post, how do I get it archive on that page.
-
To create an archives page, name the new page Archive and choose from the drop-down page template box on the right Archive for that page. Publish it and it will happen automatically. You’ll love Misty. I used it a long time.
I’m curious – we seem to have a greater number than usual people here just switching from blogspot. Did something happen over there?

Thanks cj and ellaella. I have it. Ella your decadent hot chocolate looks fabuloous. I’ll definitely be trying that one out when the temperature on the tip of Africa drops below 40.
Thanks again. -
Hot chocolate is good after swimming too, or on a cool Summery type evening. *wink* =^..^=

@gluebook – You’re welcome and thank you for the kind words. But as katkmeanders has pointed out….
@katkmeanders – *wink* indeed! ;)
