how do you connect a theme that you purchased?

I had bought a theme on Theme Forest called ZIZOU – A Minimalistic Personal Blog. I am trying to connect the theme to my word press and there is no option to do so. I have the free version of word press. Do I need to upgrade? Or is there somewhere in the account settings to apply this theme?

Hi gnardawgz,
To use custom themes and plugins you’ve acquired elsewhere you’re going to have to run a privately-hosted version of WordPress from WordPress.org – which requires hosting to be provided by someone like GoDaddy or Bluehost, etc. This will allow you to customise the site as you wish but also requires a little more manual work to get it fully setup and maintained.
Sites made using WordPress.com (this site) are hosted here by Automattic and have a set list of themes and plugins available to provide a simpler, more streamlined solution.

gnardawgz – as demasiri mentioned, if you want to build a site here on WordPress.com, you can choose from our collection of themes here: https://wordpress.com/themes/
To use a theme purchased elsewhere, you’ll need to find hosting and install WordPress yourself. That’s called a “self-hosted” WordPress site.
