How do you copy posts (to create new ones) in the new post creator?
-
The old “new post” creator featured “copy post” button below the edit screen for duplicating an old post for alteration into a new one. (wordpress.com) Since my monthly magazine-column posts all fit the same format and contain may of the same links, being able to duplicate and create new posts from existing ones is imperative for me. I have looked seemingly everywhere and cannot figure out how to do this in the new editor. PLEASE HELP!

Hello there!
Because that tool wasn’t used often, it isn’t available in the new editor. However, I’ve got a couple solutions that might suit you!
- The first is probably the most obvious: copy and paste. Copy everything from the HTML tab in your original post, and then paste it into your HTML tab in your new post.
- My next suggestion is to continue using the classic editor when you want to copy a post:
https://gregbrownflyingcarpet.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.phpThe Copy a Post feature is still available to you there.
I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

I appreciate that Robyn. Others may not use it much but as you can probably see I post a lot, almost always via “copy.” What are you “saving” by removing it?? I had great difficulty finding the classic editor. Are you saying it will continue to be available via that admin page? Or will your team ultimately remove the editor from there, too? G

Hi again!
I certainly don’t mean to say the function isn’t useful — it definitely is! But, other features took precedence. While there are no plans to add it to the new dashboard, we are NOT going to remove the function from the classic version. That is there for you to use all you need.
If you find Copy a Post integral to your usage of WordPress.com, I would recommend you leave your suggestion here:

In the meantime, I suggest bookmarking the classic editor, so you always have it at your fingertips in one-click.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I’m happy to help out. Cheers!
