How do you create a landing page without sidebars and widgets?

I want to change themes. I currently use Pilcrow and want to change to a premium theme. Is it possible to set up a site that has a landing page with no sidebars–but with sidebar widgets such as archives, search and blogroll appearing only on the blog page? Is there more than one premium theme that would support such a layout?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Howdy,
Yes multiple themes will do what you want.

You will want to search for themes with a full-width template. Here is that search. You can narrow it down further by adding parameters under “Find a Theme.”

The full-width template allows you to build pages without sidebars.

From there, you will use the visibility settings on each widget you want to appear only on the blog page, which you can read about here. If you’re using a page to catch all your posts, you will want to select “Show if” “Page” is “Post Page” (as opposed to the page name itself).

Let me know if you have any trouble.

Thanks so much Berry. I’m scoping out the theme choices. With my selections I still have about 25 different themes I can choose. Cool. Changing from one them to another is a little scary, but the one I have now is not suitable as I’m setting up an “author page” for a mystery novel I have coming out soon. Thanks again.
