How do you create a translation button without plugins?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am creating a website for a small Senegalese NGO that will provide information about their activity and donation procedure instructions. The problem is that the website needs to be multilingual with versions in English as well as French – and if possible, Spanish too. Without using plugins or upgrading to a business plan, how could I produce translation buttons for each of the website’s pages?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hey there,

Many thanks for reaching out and can definitely help with this.

So, it is possible to create a multi-lingual site, without plugins, but it is a manual process.

Each language would have their own pages for example.

    Example.com
    – example.com/about/
    – example.com/contact/
    – example.com/gallery/
    – example.com/es/acerca-de/
    – example.com/es/contacto/
    – example.com/es/galería/

In full site editing, it’s then possible to create your own header, and page templates that you can assign. https://wordpress.com/support/templates/

That’s to say that, you would have your own header, for the main pages, and the Spanish pages would have their own page templates, with their own headers and footers

I hope this helps! What other features do you have in mind for the site? Happy to help further.
