How do you create space before words on lines?

How do you create space before words on lines? When I post a poem in which some lines begin a little to the right the lines in question get aligned to the left border. Any suggestions?

Put /&/n/b/s/p/;/ / (minus the slashes) before the line, repeatedly for multiple spaces.
