How do you edit an entry byline?

I manage my husband’s blog as a co-administrator. When I press “Publish,” the entry byline shows “Posted by” my name instead of his as the author when I am signed in. I need to stay signed in to manage my other blogs. I tried editing the HTML code using “Inspect Element,” but I don’t know how to save it so it doesn’t revert back to my name. The only option I know of is to sign in as my husband or have him publish his own posts after I edit and format them, which is inconvenient for both him and me.

Also, is it possible to add another name to the byline in a different capacity, such as edited by? This is a secondary concern.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Pamela, The author of the post will appear in the byline. If that author is you, then your name will appear. If you log in and post as your husband, his name will appear. This isn’t adjustable.

If you’re not able to log out of your account in order to create these posts, I have two solutions that might work for you:

As you use Firefox as your main browser, you can keep your own account logged in there. However, you can use another browser, such as Google Chrome, to log in as your husband. Every time you post and want his name to appear, you can open Chrome to do so. Then, you can switch back to Firefox to administer your own sites.

Alternatively, you can hide the byline altogether with CSS code. If you opt for this choice, you would have to upgrade to Custom Design in order to alter your site’s template. Here is a link that displays all the features that come with the Custom upgrade:

I hope this helps! Best wishes to you.

    Thank you, Robyn.

I’ll try your browser-switch suggestion next time.

Pamela, excellent! Glad that will work out for you. Thanks so much!

    Hello again, Robyn.

Actually, I just stumbled on a very easy way to change the author: From the Dashboard, you go to Quick Edit. A drop-down list of authors appears, and you can choose one, even after the post has been published. You can do the same thing with the published date/time. So there’s no need to get into the HTML code at all.

However, it probably is a good idea to be logged in as the desired author, even when doing a draft, because the template bases the byline on whoever is signed into the account. Then you don’t have to remember to change it.

Logging in as two different people from two different browsers is one way to handle this, as you pointed out, although it could cause some confusion, especially if the actual other author–not just you “acting as if” you’re the author–logs in. Then you encounter a message such as “Author X has taken over,” and the first log-in’s changes/revisions could potentially be lost or overwritten.

    Thanks again for your response.

    Pamela
