How do you edit the Footer with theme Twenty Seventeen
-
Hi,
I am trying to add a row of images, each with a link to another website, to the footer of my website.
The theme I am using is Twenty Seventeen.
When I navigate the menu using “Customize > Theme” I am not presented with an opiton to edit the “footer”.
I have been able to add widgets to the footer using the widgets option, BUT I have not been able to find a widget that provides the functionality (as stated above in the first paragraph) that I require.
And so believe that I want to add an IMAGE BLOCK to the footer to achieve what I need.
Can someone please advise how I can add an IMAGE BLOCK to the footer when using theme Twenty Seventeen?
Many thanks.

Hello Mike,
What you want to do is not possible.
Blocks cannot be used in widget areas, they can only used in the editor.
The only way to add content to a site footer is via widgets, and then only if the theme has support for a footer widget area.
We are working on a way to make it possible to add blocks to any area on a site, or put differently, where the entire theme will actually be made up of blocks, but that feature is still in development, and it will also only work with themes that were specifically designed for it, not with Twenty-Seventeen.
If you want to take a look at those themes, you can find them here:

On the Gazette theme footer content may be added at Customize > Theme Options > Footer Content. One may insert HTML code there that produces a table containing a row of image links, although the width of the area available (without CSS customization) is quite narrow. Are there any other themes that have customizable footer content section such as that in Gazette?

That’s a feature unique to Gazette as far as I know.
But I also wouldn’t recommend that, as tables are not responsive. So while it might get the desired effect on desktop, it will likely look terrible on mobile.

Hi musicdoc1 and kokkieh,
Thanks for your consideration and advice. Its good to have people like yourselves available to help.
I conclude that I should think of a different way of doing what I need.
I am also going to try to add an image link to the header which I hope will prove more successful :-)
Thanks again,
