How do you enable voting on blog entries and sorting by number of votes?

I am trying to build a newspaper-like blog with a large number of independent authors and contributors. Because of this, I would like to have a voting system which allows viewers to vote and to sort by number of votes in order to identify the best entries, rather than sorting only by date of entry. How can I do this? It would be great to have a system where users can cast either a negative or a positive vote.

At this point in time people are using thrid party providers like for example htt://luckypolls.com
