How do you get paid for WordAds?
-
Hi,
About WordAds, how do you receive payment? I understand it’s revshare. If I were to place advertising on my site, how would I get paid? PayPal? Check? Wire transfer? Something else?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hell there,
Would you like to provide some information please and links to example WordAds that we can examine. The nature of the ads is of critical importance to me. -
P.S. I’m not at sort of blogger who is jumping up and down eager to make a buck on my blog. The blog linked to my username has had enough traffic stats to apply for the AdControl program for over a year and probably closer to 2 years but I have never applied.
As I said above it’s the kind of ads that is critical in my case. I loathe and despise the cheesy pop-ups, vidoes, casinos ads, etc. that appear to be common when I deactivate my AdBlocker. I don’t want gambling, alcohol related or sexy ads on my blog.
If the ads aren’t classy, tasteful and in keeping with my content and/or if they are TextLink ads that Google despises, and/or if I do not have control over which ads are displayed on my blog then then I would prefer to pay to keep advertising off my blogs by purchasing a No-Ads upgrade.
-
It doesn’t sound like you’ll get control over which ads appear in your blog, but then pretty much the only way you can do that is to deal directly with advertisers, which of course we’re not allowed to do here.
I think it is hilarious that all these people are jumping up and down super excited about the prospect of when they have no idea what their potential earnings may be, never mind what kind of cut Automattic will take. If the current plague of tacky animated CLICK HERE NOW!!! ads was going to be replaced by tasteful alternatives, I would be a lot happier about this news, but apparently that’s not the case either.
(I don’t know what ‘to a certain extent’ means in this context, but I’m guessing it means ‘if you’re a US-based blog which fits snugly into one of our predefined categories then we will serve WordAds, otherwise we’ll carry on plastering your blog with whatever rubbish our other providers want to throw up there.’ Great.)

For those getting excited about advertising, they might want to read this comment by Otto on ads:

We are not yet live with WordAds. However, you can get a sense for what the ads will be like by looking at ads that sites that Federated Media represents. This include:

It’s an interesting development for wp.com, a radical departure from the path taken so far, but not yet operational, so it’s hard to make any decision right now on whether or not to participate. If it’s blogger-friendly – ie no annoying pop-ups from porn or gambling sites allowed unless you really want it – then it’s worth a try. Should a blogger choose to allow ads, there should be an option to monitor them on your site, and disable individual ones or the whole deal should it not be to the blogger’s liking.

I agree with raincoaster that FM is a good company. It is a blogger friendly company (and hope it continues that way….)

Well, they’ll have to pay for domain mapping, and to register a domain if they don’t already have one, so it’s not free.
-
Just to be clear, as long as you have a domain name mapped to your WordPress.com blog already, it’s free. You don’t need to purchase an additional domain to use WordAds, you just need to have one registered and/or mapped.
-
Just wish to throw here a wish I have after this availability of WordAds.
I hope that WordPress.com would now consider lowering the cost of No-Ads upgrade, or possibly eliminate it altogether. Wishing too much I know, but …
-
+1 for the elimination/or reduction in the cost of an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.
-
If anything, they will be bumping up the price of the no ads upgrade on the grounds that the sparkly new ads pull in more money than Adsense did.
-
-
I wonder how many No Ads upgrades were just purchased in the last 10 minutes or so… (going off to count the pennies in the cookie jar).
